How to Choose the Best Water Softener: Our Tips

Sep 8, 2026 | Water Analysis, Tips

  • Dépôt blanchâtre sur vos verres;
  • Vêtements ternis ou endommagés;
  • Peau sèche qui démange;
  • Efficacité des savons réduite;
  • Cheveux secs et fragiles;

  1. Déterminer la dureté de l’eau de votre maison en réalisant un test de dureté;
  2. Déterminer sa capacité nécessaire en fonction de la taille du ménage et de vos besoins afin de vous assurer un apport d’eau suffisant;

Advantages:

Salt water softeners are generally more effective because they completely remove hard minerals from your water.

Disadvantages:

Salt water softeners require maintenance to function correctly, i.e., the addition of water softener salt. Experteau equipment is at the cutting edge of technology and uses two to three times less salt than a conventional water softener. We also offer optional water softeners with brine recovery (Prosoft EFT).

Without salt

Salt-free water softeners work by using alternative technologies to reduce water hardness without using salt (sodium chloride), which is commonly used in traditional water softeners. It is important to note that salt-free water softeners do not remove minerals from the water, unlike salt-based water softeners. Instead, they prevent minerals from sticking to surfaces, thereby reducing problems related to water hardness, such as limescale deposits. However, the effectiveness of these systems can vary depending on the hardness of the water in your region and other factors.

Here are some of the most common methods for softening water without salt:

  • Electromagnetic softening: These systems use electromagnetic fields to modify the structure of the minerals responsible for water hardness, primarily calcium and magnesium. This reduces the buildup of these minerals on pipes and appliances.
  • CO₂ or carbonic acid filtration: These two methods are used only in industrial applications due to the complexity of maintenance and the use of chemicals.

There are other types of salt-free water treatment equipment available on the market. However, these technologies are rarely certified, and their performance is difficult to demonstrate because they do not eliminate water hardness but only neutralize it, according to manufacturers’ claims.

At Experteau, we are constantly on the lookout for innovative technologies, and all our products are carefully selected to ensure their reliability and effectiveness.

Advantages:

Salt-free water softeners require less maintenance than conventional salt systems.

Disadvantages:

However, they are less effective at removing hard minerals compared to salt based water softeners.Instead of eliminating these minerals or water hardness; they simply neutralize them to reduce limescale formation.

How much does a water softener cost?

The cost of a water softener depends on several factors such as the size of your household, the hardness of your water, and the type of water softener chosen. The price of a softener can vary between $2000 and $3500 depending on the water hardness and other factors. By choosing Experteau, you ensure that you make the right choice of water softener, adapted to your specific needs and your budget.
