How do constant pressure systems work?

Conventional systems use a pressure switch to start and stop the pump at a given pressure. For example, your pump will start when the system pressure reaches 40 psi. It will then fill your hydropneumatic tank and stop when the pressure reaches 60 psi. These systems therefore have a pressure that varies by 20 psi.

Constant pressure systems do not use a pressure switch, instead, they employ an electronic pressure transmitter that sends an electrical signal to a controller. This controller modulates the current sent to the pump, adjusting its speed to maintain consistent water pressure in your home.

These systems often maintain pressure variations of less than 2 psi. By varying the frequency (Hz) of the pump motor, they adjust electrical consumption to match demand. Therefore, these systems use only the energy required to provide consistent water pressure from your well.
